Early Machine Ciphers

This section looks at some of the simpler ciphers involving mechanical aid to the cryptographer. Cipher disks or slides are left in the pencil-and-paper section, but the Wheatstone cryptograph (a set of geared cipher disks which achieved polyalphabeticity by using plain and cipher alphabets of different lengths) would go here if it were covered.
